Easter Sunday today, a day of Love, I suppose. But, and that is a long but, I'm tired of the huggy kind of thing that so many people do. It's a false demonstration for many. Why in the world does someone who is a plain ordinary American want to hug someone he has met once and with whom he has exchanged about two words? Are we trying to bring something from another culture into our good old American culture? Maybe I just want to complain. What I do want is just plain honesty and not a put on show.
Now that the above is out of my system I can go on to other things, like the New York Times. I get the Sunday edition and spend the following week reading the whole thing. It is a wonderful feeling to have a cup of coffee to sip as I turn the crinkly pages. Will that be gone soon? I hope not.
Let's have a toast to this day. I will go to the kitchen and find my bag of See's small chocolate eggs, pop one into my mouth and sweeten my attitude.

Back to Writing
Something has been urging me to start writing again. Maybe it's because I am helping a couple of boys with writing, in a charter school in Sausalito, a small town near Belvedere. When the boys were given an assignment to write a personal essay about their present, past and future, my senses took hold. My life has been a long one. I should look at it on these personal terms also. Heavens, I could probably publish volumes I have lived so long.
The only writing I have done since first writing on my blog has been an attempt to write some memories for Janie and Bruce, my children. Along with that each evening before turning out the light next to my bed, I pick up the small notebook from the night stand and begin to write what I was grateful on that particular day. Perhaps I should go back to that little book to get more ideas for my present, past and future. What do you think?

Eat Books
I promised myself this morning that I would write today. Now it is almost 10PM, and I am ready to connect with the bed. A promise is a promise, so here goes.
Books are great friends! That sounds trite, I know, but without them the days would be incomplete. Many of you know that I usually have three going at the same time. It is like having a chocolate sundae, mashed potatoes, or cherry pie. You want each of those items but not all the time. That is the reason I need to have different books. Right now it is CANTERBURY TALES,HOUSE, and NIGHT TRAIN TO LISBON. I love each one but not as a steady diet. Lucky me to have the time to read. Taking on years isn't all bad.

Different Connections
Talk about being slow on the job, that's me. Where does the time go? The new morning arrives, and before I know it the clock says it is time to put the head down on the pillow. There are too many connections at this point.I love being connected to the president of the art auxiliary that I belong to. She is a tremendous help to me on all the treasury stuff. How is a writer supposed to know how to add and subtract and keep financial records? There is no way that I can do it--but I try.
People say that to grow old gracefully and to live to a ripe age one should have something to do each day and to constantly make new friends. The new friends should be young ones, too, because the old ones sometimes decide to leave this earth.I do become tired of some of this advice and really go my own way and make my own choices.
The connections that fill me with joy are the ones I have with many of my grandchildren. How can a grandmother not feel loved when the telephone rings and a voice says,"Mutti, can I come over and spend the day with you? Maybe you can help me with some sewing, but mostly I just want to hang out." What great happiness and well being I feel after a day spent with a sweet 25 year old who is so pretty, so smart and so loving. That is a real connection. I don't ever want to untie the knot.
Now I hope some one will read this and feel good about their life, for life truly is the greatest.

Music
How could I possibly let so much time go by without making connections with all--I mean all of my readers. Many of you have probably dropped off, and I don't blame you.
Last Saturday I attended a concert with Peter Allen conducting some of his new music. Yes, the music was fantastic, but I was taken with the goals and ideals of the outfit that sponsored the program--Land Paths. Land Paths is located in Sonoma County in California. Its primary goal is to have urban residents make a real connection to nature through hikes and education. They have developed an outdoor education program for school children that is a gift for the children. Now they are extending their ideas to eating healthy foods that are grown near their own homes. This community effort of planting has made further connections with members of the community. I wish they would come to Marin County.
More and more the world is realizing how interconnected all of us are. The connection comes through music, conversations, group projects. I could go on forever, but we all know.

One Power
My head hangs low. How could I neglect posting a blog for so long is beyond belief. Connections go on and I simply have not seen them. But this past Sunday when I was at a memorial service at the Jewish temple all kinds of things came to thought. First, the scriptures read by the rabbi were so familiar to me even though I am a Christian. This pointed out clearly that there is only one God for all of us. We may worship differently, but it is to the same all knowing power.
Afterwards it was wonderful to run into friends I had not seen in so long and to catch up on family members. In other words I reconnected. The death of Joan was tragic, but all had to agree it was a time to reconnect, as she would have wanted it. It had always been her request that people should celebrate her life and not mourn her leaving.

Magical Universe
I guess the question is--Why have a blog if you are not going to write in it at least every couple of days? So now I will attempt. The first item I want to mention is how keeping an open heart and mind can reap wonderful blessings to the one with the open heart. Last Saturday I met an outstanding young woman to whom I was so drawn I had to speak. Who had provided this meeting? Was It a greater source than I? Once again was it a way of reinforcing my belief that each of us in this magical universe is connected to all within. That belief or fact really solidifies the reason that man can only give love and understanding to his fellow man.
